Embodiment Construction

[0014] The invention applies to motor vehicles provided with a manual mechanical transmission having a basic gearbox and optionally at least one secondary gearbox, such as a range gearbox or a transfer gearbox ( split gearbox). Especially heavy motor vehicles such as trucks, trailers and buses frequently have transfer and range gearboxes. It should be noted that "gearbox" is here to be understood broadly, and that the transfer, base or main, and range sections of the transmission may be housed in the same gearbox housing.

[0015] It should also be noted that the invention is particularly applicable to heavier vehicles, but can be used with any motor vehicle, such as private cars, tractors and the like.

[0016] figure 1 A control system for a vehicle with which the invention may be used is schematically shown. The vehicle comprises a front axle 1 with steered wheels 2 , 3 , a rear drive axle 4 with drive wheels 5 - 8 , and optionally a rear axle 9 with wheels 10 and 11 . ...

Abstract

The present invention relates to a gear feedback system for use in a vehicle, comprising a gear recommendation means adapted to determine an optimal gear value in dependence of various influencing parameters, e.g. weight of the vehicle, velocity, rotational speed, road topography, and based upon the optimal gear value to recommend an optimal gear of the vehicle. The system further comprises a gear sensing means for sensing a currently used gear and to determine a used gear value in dependence thereto, an evaluation means to analyse and grade the currently used gear, by comparing the currently used gear value with the optimal gear value and based upon the comparison generate a grade. The system further comprises a presentation means to present the grade to the driver of the vehicle, and said grade depends on the time using a non-optimal gear, such that the grade is decreased if the non-optimal gear is used longer than a dynamic time duration, and said grade depends on the time using an optimal gear, such that the grade is increased if the optimal gear is used longer than a dynamic time duration.

Description

technical field [0001] The invention relates to a gear feedback system according to the preamble of claim 1 . Background technique [0002] When driving heavy vehicles such as trucks, buses, etc., vehicle economy has become an important factor when attempting to reduce costs in the business in which the vehicle is used. Because of the negative environmental effects from fuel combustion, there is also now a high focus on reducing fuel consumption. [0003] From an economic point of view and from an environmental point of view, the driver has the greatest influence through the way he / she drives the vehicle. Thus, it may be difficult for the driver to determine which gear is optimal from the point of view of fuel consumption in different situations. When maneuvering a vehicle, there are usually at least two suitable gears to choose from in terms of speed. The driver's difficulty is how to know which of these gears will cause the motor to work in the most efficient and thus a...
