Abstract

Changes in themes in the image content are detected by utilizing subtitles contained in the image, and the content is segmented on a per-theme basis. First, scene change points that significantly change the scene by image switching are detected in image content. Next, an average image of frames one second before and after the scene change point is formed, and, with high precision, whether or not subtitles appear at the scene change point is detected using the average image. Segments in which equivalent static subtitles appear are detected to create index information about a time period of each segment in which equivalent static subtitles are displayed.
