Embodiment Construction

[0024] figure 1 A schematic diagram of an embodiment of an electronic device 1 according to the invention is shown.

[0025]The electronic device 1 comprises a first contact surface 6 arranged to be in contact with a first contact area of an individual's skin. The electronic device 1 further comprises a second contact surface 6' arranged to be in contact with a second contact area of the individual's skin. The first contact surface 6 and the second contact surface 6' carry a first electrode 8 and a second electrode 8', respectively. The electrodes 8, 8' are arranged to provide electrical contact with the skin of the individual to perform electrical signal measurements related to the physiological condition of the individual. The signals S, S' respectively drawn from the electrodes are supplied to a device 10 for measuring electrical signals. Additionally, the device 1 may comprise sensors for monitoring signals not directly related to the target physiological condition,...

Abstract

The present invention relates to a portable electronic device, such as a shaver, toothbrush, walkman, telephone unit, etc., arranged to measure a signal representative of a user's physiological condition during regular use of the device. In an embodiment of the electric shaver (25), there is provided a first contact surface (26) comprising a plurality of shaver heads (26a, 26b, 26c). The shaver head is produced from an electrically conductive material, usually metal, suitable for good electrical contact with the individual's skin during shaving, thus constituting the first electrode. The second contact surface (28') is at the housing of the shaver, especially at its handle portion (28), where it can contact the individual's hand. The second contact surface (28') includes a second electrode (29). Additionally, the second contact surface (28') may comprise a further sensor (29') arranged to provide additional data about the physiological condition of the user. Signals measured from the electrodes are supplied to the input of an amplifier (30), preferably a differential amplifier. The signal output from the differential amplifier (30) is then passed to a band pass filter (32) with a preferred frequency band of 0.02 Hz to 100 Hz. The finitely amplified biological signal (33) is then provided to an analog-to-digital converter (34). The digitized signal is analyzed by analysis means (35) and the results of the analysis including inferred health-related parameters are displayed on a display (36) of the electric shaver. Additionally, a built-in transmission means (38) transmits health-related parameters and / or raw data to a remotely located unit. Preferably, the transmission means (38) comprises a wireless transmitter.
