The method comprises the steps that the terminal device receives an operation instruction of changing a theme of the terminal device by a user; the operation instruction indicates the terminal device to change a current theme of the terminal device to a target theme; the terminal device obtains a target application in the terminal device, wherein the target application is a frozen application; the terminal device queries a target application icon of the target application, wherein the target application icon is an application icon corresponding to the target application in the target theme; and the terminal device replaces an original application icon of the target application with the target application icon. By implementing the embodiments of the method and the terminal device, the original application icon of the frozen application can be replaced with an icon adaptive to a newly changed theme, and the visual effect is more unified, so that the user experience is improved.
