Problems solved by technology

These glass syringes have several disadvantages: the tip is brittle and can break during preparation or use, resulting in a potentially dangerous sharp; the syringe leaks around an imperfect seal between the glass and the adapter; the plastic adapter structure can spontaneously separate from the Detachment of the glass tip; or the tip may become clogged due to the narrow nature of the constructed glass tip
Typically, the spring decompression is relatively uncontrolled so that in use, excessively forceful needle retraction can result in spattering as air is forced out of the syringe barrel as the needle retracts into the barrel

Abstract

A connector mountable to a syringe barrel has a proximal barrel-engaging portion, a distal luer fitment portion, and a fluid aperture therethrough. The barrel-engaging portion of the connector includes an axial ledge configured to abut the axial distal edge of a glass syringe barrel. The connector facilitates mounting a luer assembly to the barrel. The luer assembly may be a tip cap having a complementary luer fitment for connection to the luer fitment portion of the connector. The luer assembly may be a luer needle assembly having a complementary luer fitment for connection to the luer fitment portion of the connector. The connector and syringe may further include an immobile, compressible needle seal. The needle seal is adjacent to or engageable with the barrel-engaging portion of the connector. The syringe may be configured with a plunger capable of engaging a retractable needle.

Description

[0001] related application [0002] This application claims priority to U.S. Application Nos. 61 / 863,098, filed August 7, 2013, and 61 / 898,077, filed October 31, 2013, both of which are incorporated herein, And for all purposes. technical field [0003] The embodiments described herein relate to syringes. More specifically, embodiments provide a connector configured to connect to a syringe barrel and provide a Luer fitting connectable to an optional retractable needle attachment for fluid delivery. Background technique [0004] Today's healthcare practitioners are often equipped with ready-to-use medical equipment because the equipment has been sterilized during manufacture. This is especially true for syringes used to administer parenteral drugs and other liquid medicines. Syringes typically include a plastic barrel having a generally closed end and an opposite open end. The open end is sealed by a slidable plunger. The closed end of the syringe has a dispense port in ...
