The method comprises the steps that when a received air-conditioner control instruction is a refrigeration energy-saving comfortable instruction and the current indoor temperature is not lower than an indoor environment temperature threshold value, the variable frequency air conditioner is controlled to run according to the original variable frequency control manner of the variable frequency air conditioner; or else, the target frequency of a compressor worked out according to the original variable frequency control manner is obtained, and whether the target frequency of the compressor is smaller than the first set frequency of the compressor or not is judged; if yes, the compressor is controlled to run at the first set frequency of the compressor, and an outdoor fan is controlled to run at the set rotating speed; and if not, the compressor and the outdoor fan are controlled to run according to the original variable frequency control manner. In the original variable frequency control manner, room temperature PID control or fuzzy control is performed on the compressor. By the application of the method for controlling the air conditioner, the energy-saving performance and refrigeration comfort of the air conditioner are improved.
