Embodiment Construction

[0022] Here, the background of the present invention is introduced first. According to the IEEE802.3ah / 802.3av standard, the automatic discovery of optical network units uses the messages of Multi-Point Control Protocol (Multi-Point Control Protocol 1): GATE, REGISTER_REQ, REGISTER and REGISTER_ACK.

[0023] Since multiple unregistered ONUs may respond to the same discovery GATE message, the REGISTER_REQ messages of individual ONUs may collide with each other. In this case, the ONU whose REGISTER_REQ message collides will not get the REGISTER message. If an ONU does not receive a REGISTER message before it receives another Discovery GATE message, the ONU will conclude that a collision has occurred and will attempt the next registration.

[0024] figure 1 A schematic diagram of the relationship between the discovery window and the discovery time slot is shown. Such as figure 1 As shown, the discovery time slot is the length granted to all unregistered ONUs to register, that...

Abstract

The invention provides a method for improving the uplink bandwidth of a passive optical network in an optical line terminal. In the passive optical network, the optical line terminal has a configurable parameter N and allows N optical network units at most to register, and the passive optical network includes n unregistered optical network units. The optical line terminal periodically transmits a discovery window for optical network unit registering. In the discovery window, each optical network unit is assigned a discovery slot used for registering of the optical network unit. The method comprises the following steps: the optical line terminal opens the discovery window for the optical network units to register if N>=n>0; and the optical line terminal closes the discovery window to enable uplink data of each optical network unit to be transmitted when n=0. The size of the window dynamically decreases as the number of the unregistered optical network units decreases.

Description

technical field [0001] The invention relates to optical communication technology, in particular to a method for improving the uplink bandwidth of a passive optical network. Background technique [0002] In the process of automatic discovery of optical network units, the Dynamic Bandwidth Allocation algorithm on the optical line terminal periodically sends MPCP discovery messages to check newly connected optical network units, and at the same time allocates discovery windows. During the discovery window, registered ONUs are not allowed to send uplink data. [0003] For 10G PON, the optical line terminal currently supports a splitting ratio of 1:128. Considering that the distance between the OLT and each ONU is randomly distributed between intervals 0 km and 20 km (this corresponds to a round-trip time of 0 to 200 microseconds), the discovery window has to take into account the maximum round-trip time ( round-trip time), thus causing excessive overhead of uplink bandwidth. ...
