This can be implemented in a head-mountable display, such as a glasses-style wearable computer, equipped with one or more proximity sensors. In some implementations, the HMD has a proximity sensor with a receiver portion disposed on a side of the HMD. Thus, in these implementations, when the wearer is wearing the HMD, the receiver portion is arranged at an oblique angle relative to the eye region and can detect light (eg, infrared light) reflected from the eye region. Additionally, the HMD may include a light source or set of light sources capable of providing light (eg, infrared light) to the eye region.
