[0065] It has been reported that fish oil rich in the omega 3 fatty acid DHA is not effective in treating mild to moderate Alzheimer's disease patients with extensive β-amyloid plaques and tangles. DHA has been shown to reduce β-amyloid accumulation, but in an animal model with β-amyloid and tangles (tau pathology), 3xAD transgenic mice, when pathology develops, over time , DHA seems to lose its efficacy. We found that fish oil alone was not sufficient to treat 3xAD Tg mice.
