Embodiment Construction
[0077] Embodiments of the present invention provide a method for treating the heart after myocardial infarction (MI). Electrical stimulation was delivered to selected parts of the heart regardless of whether any arrhythmia diagnosis was made. Stimulation can be excitatory or non-excitable using cathodal, anodal and biphasic waveforms. The portion of the heart selected for stimulation is selected based on the type of stimulation performed and the degree of damage to the cardiac tissue. In an exemplary embodiment, only healthy heart tissue is stimulated.
[0078] In an exemplary embodiment of the invention, biphasic biventricular stimulation targets undamaged regions of the heart to enhance muscle contraction of healthy tissue, thereby allowing the heart to achieve normal or near normal function. The enhanced muscle contraction of the stimulating part of the heart reduces the load on the heart and prevents and reduces the unfavorable state of remodeling of the heart after myoc...

Abstract
A system and method for managing and inhibiting cardiac remodeling in MI patients. Bi-ventricular stimulation is constantly provided with and without sensing to encourage normal pumping of the heart on a consistent basis. Pulses are administered using an anodal pulse followed by a cathodal pulse to stimulate cardiac muscle contraction. Stem cells are administered to MI areas to encourage regeneration of cardiac tissue in the damaged area. Stimulation may be provide to both healthy and compromised cardiac tissue.
