Problems solved by technology

However, this problem is still common because the device is not anchored in the IVC in a stable manner
In addition to blood clots, constant blood flow can confuse the filter within the IVC, making recapture difficult

Abstract

Funnel-trap type devices made of shape-set (e.g., heatset) braid for delivery and / or retrieval of Inferior Vena Cava (IVC) filters or other medical devices are described. Delivery and / or retrieval devices, kits in which they are included, methods of use and methods of manufacture are all contemplated herein.

Description

technical field [0001] Embodiments described herein relate to intravascular (percutaneously delivered) inferior vena cava (IVC) filter devices and methods, particularly for use with temporary IVC filters. Background technique [0002] Temporary IVC filters are placed much like permanent filters, but are designed so that they can be withdrawn through a separate endovascular procedure, usually from the femoral or internal jugular vein access. Most currently available temporary filters include hooked features by which they can be captured and received into a catheter or sheath for removal by use of a gooseneck snare or multiple loop snare. [0003] While retraction is in principle a simple process, a difficulty often encountered is obtaining the hook of the filter with the snare ring(s). This difficulty is exacerbated when the filter is tilted or placed out of balance. Many filters are designed to avoid this orientation. However, this problem is still common because the devi...
