Embodiment Construction

[0065] Referring now to the drawings, which are shown for purposes of illustrating certain exemplary embodiments only and not for purposes of limitation, figure 1 An exemplary vehicle powertrain is illustrated showing the relationship between input torque and output torque through a transmission as referenced in accordance with the present disclosure. The vehicle 10 includes an engine 20 , a transmission 30 and a transmission control module 40 . Under normal operation, including vehicle acceleration, steady-state operation, or gradual deceleration, the engine 20 supplies input torque to the transmission 30, and the transmission 30 converts the input torque, through the transmission ratios within the transmission, into an output torque, thereby providing a transmission for the vehicle 10. The system 32 provides power and, within an automatic transmission, suffers losses associated with the operation of the torque converter. Under engine braking operation, the output torque is ...

Abstract

The present invention relates to GPS-based predictive shift schedules for automatic transmissions. A method for improving a default transmission shift schedule of a vehicle includes monitoring current vehicle parameters and determining future roadway information at a predetermined distance in front of the vehicle. Future vehicle parameters are predicted based on the determined future road information. A default transmission shift schedule is improved based on current vehicle parameters and predicted future vehicle parameters.

Description

technical field [0001] The present disclosure relates to transmission control in motor vehicles. Background technique [0002] The statements in this section merely provide background information related to the present disclosure. Accordingly, these statements are not intended to constitute an admission of prior art. [0003] A transmission transforms torque from one or more rotating shafts to torque on one or more rotating shafts. The transmission utilizes discrete gear states to achieve the various torque transfer and shifting functions required. A transmission shift includes disengagement of a first clutch, interrupting torque transfer through the transmission, and thereafter engaging a second clutch, re-establishing torque transfer through the transmission. Thus, transmission shifting may include interruption of torque provided through the transmission, creating undesirable drivability and lower overall fuel efficiency of the vehicle. [0004] Increasing the number o...
