In the method, the AT is prohibited to be changed from a second gear position to a first gear position and is allowed to be operated at the second gear position when the speed of a vehicle is always lower than a certain set value after the vehicle is accelerated statically so as to overcome undesirable phenomena of frequent gear shift until the function is stopped when the speed of the vehicle is higher than the set limitation value, wherein an input signal is a vehicle speed signal and a transmission gear position signal; and an output signal is a downshift prohibition requirement transmitted by a transmission control unit (TCU). By the control method, the emission amount increase due to the change of the working condition of an engine caused by the gear shift of the AT is reduced while the phenomenon of frequent gear shift of the AT is prohibited under the working condition of traffic congestion, so that the method has the great advantages of protecting an actuating mechanism of the AT, improving the reliability of the AT and prolonging the service life of the AT.
