The present invention discloses a system for managing session messages in an instant communication terminal, which comprises an unread message storage unit and an unread message management unit, wherein the unread message storage unit is used to store the summary records of the unread session messages; the unread message management unit is used to withdraw the summary records from the unread session messages and to store the summary records to the unread message storage unit, and to delete the corresponding summary records in the unread message storage unit when session messages are read.
