Embodiment Construction

[0050] Referring to Figure 1, a first aspect of the illustrated endoscopic instrument may include a flexible shaft 100 having a distal end 102 for insertion into a patient's gastrointestinal tract 10 and for connecting a light source, a fiber optic eyepiece , the proximal end 104 of the camera display, irrigation line, vacuum source, actuator controller, etc. The shaft 100 is sized and shaped to receive a flexible endoscope therein and defines an elongated axis A, which may be linear or curvilinear. The distal end 102 of the flexible shaft 100 may include a plurality of arms 110 that can extend from and retract into a plurality of arm housings 128 disposed around the perimeter of the distal end 102 .

[0051] The flexible shaft 100 may also include a working channel 150 and a plurality of auxiliary channels 160 . The channels 150 and 160 may be internal or external to the shaft 100 . During surgical procedures, the working channel 150 may be used to deploy endoscopic devices...

Abstract

An endoscopic instrument having a lumen stabilizing feature, including a flexible shaft having a first distal end for insertion into the gastrointestinal tract of a patient, a plurality of arm housings disposed about the periphery of the distal end, a plurality of arms retained within the arm housings, wherein the arms may be extended from and retracted into the arm housings; and a finger connected to an arm, wherein the finger may be rotated with respect to a lateral axis of the arm. Lumen stabilizing accessories for flexible endoscopic instruments are also disclosed.

Description

technical field [0001] The present application relates to endoscopic instruments and assistive devices, and more particularly, to stabilization assistive devices, such as manipulators, sheaths and stents, for stabilizing internal tissue in endoscopic surgery. Background technique [0002] Various endoscopic procedures have been developed to treat early stage gastrointestinal cancers, including prominent superficial lesions that develop within the tissues of the esophagus, stomach, and colon. Such cancers may appear as precancerous or cancerous lesions of the mucosa and include margins that adjoin or partially penetrate the submucosa of such tissues. In such situations, the physician may wish to remove the precancerous or cancerous lesion by performing a microsurgical procedure commonly classified as endoscopic mucosal resection ("EMR"). This procedure typically requires the physician to guide a flexible endoscope, such as a colonoscope or gastroscope, through a natural orif...
