Embodiment Construction

[0022] Embodiments disclosed herein relate to devices, systems and methods using fluid collection devices. In one embodiment, the fluid collection device comprises a fluid impermeable barrier at least partially defining the chamber. The fluid impermeable barrier also defines an opening extending therethrough. The opening is configured to be positioned adjacent to the female urethra or to position the male urethra therethrough. The fluid collection device also includes a conduit disposed at least partially within the chamber. The conduit defines at least one aperture that allows the interior of the conduit to be in fluid communication (eg, fluidly coupled) with the chamber. The fluid collection device also includes a valve. The valve includes a first bore coupled to a conduit and is configured to communicate directly (e.g., directly attached to or at least partially disposed therein) and / or indirectly (e.g., via at least one tube) with an air source, a vacuum source, or a fl...

Abstract

In an example, a fluid collection device includes a fluid impermeable barrier that at least partially defines a chamber. The fluid impermeable barrier also defines an opening extending therethrough. The opening is configured to be positioned adjacent to a female urethra or have a male urethra positioned therethrough. The fluid collection device also includes a conduit at least partially disposed in the chamber. The conduit defines at least one aperture that allows an interior of the conduit to be in fluid communication with the chamber. The fluid collection device further includes a valve. Thevalve includes a first aperture coupled to the conduit and a second aperture that is fluid couplable to at least one of an air source, a vacuum source, or a fluid storage container. The valve is configured to control fluid flow through the conduit responsive to direction from a user.

Description

[0001] Cross References to Related Applications [0002] This application claims priority to U.S. Provisional Application No. 62 / 665,297, filed May 1, 2018, the disclosure of which is incorporated herein by reference in its entirety. Background technique [0003] The individual's mobility may be limited or impaired, making the typical voiding process challenging or impossible. For example, an individual may have had surgery or have a disability that impairs mobility. In another example, an individual may have restricted mobility conditions, such as those experienced by pilots, drivers, and workers in hazardous areas. Additionally, it may be desirable to collect fluid from an individual for monitoring purposes or clinical testing. [0004] Bedpans and catheters, such as Foley catheters, can be used to address some of these conditions. However, bedpans and urinary catheters have several problems associated with them. For example, bedpans can be prone to discomfort, spillage,...
