The invention discloses a face-recognition-based method and a face-recognition-based system for automatically classifying television programs. The method comprises the following steps of: A, establishing a program classification table; B, acquiring the personal information of a plurality of users, and establishing a user combination classification table; C, recording the program classification information and frequency information of television watching of different user combinations in different time buckets to obtain the statistical watching habit information of the different user combinations; and D, associating the user combination classification table and the statistical watching habit information to establish a watching habit classification table.
